Seven Tips from Successful Dieters.
If your goal is to lose weight, getting started with an exercise program and cleaning up your diet are important steps. Learning the right way to eat can be a challenge, but it helps to learn from successful dieters. Tell us your tips and tricks for eating healthfully and keeping your calories under control. Here are some successful tips.
1-Tip # 1 “I make my own diet shakes and smoothies.”
I don’t know about anyone else but I have found that I can’t afford the cost of Slim fast, Nutrisystem, Zone, 50lbs and Medifast.etc. So, I take from each one what I can and discard the rest for financial reasons. I brought a blender on sale and use it to make a protein shake or smoothie (if there was too much ice). And add 2 tsps of soy protein I buy in bulk at the store. And since it is granulated I only buy what can last me for a few weeks. I buy fruit that is turning to get a discount. This helps me with my finances and keeps the doctor happy since she insists that I eat in the morning which is something I just don’t like to do. I also lucked out and found my insurance is paying for 6 weeks of physical therapy because of my size. I have lost 7lbs so far and am trying not to get bored too quickly. One last thing is I eat salad even at McDonald’s and add one type of meat for the protein.
2-Tip # 2 “Balance”
I really try to get the daily amount of fiber, a good amount of protein, and eat the recommended 5 fruits and veggies each day. I also monitor my sugar intake which can easily be doubled if not careful. I think it’s really important to buy healthy items that you like and you know you will eat
3-Tip # 3 “Fiber”
Eating more fiber really does help you lose weight. I added more fiber into my diet (lentils, whole grain salads with things like wheat berries, pearl barley and brown rice) and lost almost 5 pounds just because I late less. You really want to take your time and add it gradually – otherwise, you’ll be pretty miserable. But, it’s worth it, especially if you can find high fiber foods you like.
4-Tip # 4 “Vegetables and Fruits”
The most important nutritional practice I follow is to eat five or more vegetables and fruits each day. If I miss, I drink V-8 juice.
5-Tip # 5 “Shop at the farmers market”
I find the easiest way for me to eat well is to shop almost exclusively at my local farmers market when I can. Then I plan my meals for the week around what’s available and in season, ensuring I get a lot of variety in my diet.
6-Tip # 6 “Saturated fats”
When my husband’s cholesterol went up, we eliminated almost all saturated fats. We use olive oil dip instead of butter when we’re having bread with dinner. Plain yogurt is a decent-enough substitute for sour cream on potatoes. We got an ice cream maker and now we have sorbet instead of high calorie, high cholesterol desserts. We don’t fry anything because of the calories. And we’re grateful for summer because just about everything tastes better when it goes on the grill — even vegetables.
7- Tip # 7 “Lots of veggies”
I strive to eat as many veggies as I can. I figure if I’m full from a huge salad I’m not eating chips.
